Detailed description of Waynesboro Country Club

Waynesboro Country Club, previously private, is now a semi-private golf course located in Waynesboro, Virginia.

In 1948, 162 acres which was part of the Quillen Farm, was purchased for the purpose of building a golf course. The course opened for play in 1950 with 9-holes. The design was done by Fred Finley with the help of his apprentice, Pete Lang. In 1955 the Hewitt Dairy Farm was purchased and construction began on the back nine with the design work handled by Mr. Lang, Buddy Loving, and Mr. Pi Griggs of the Golf Committee.

The Clubhouse as it stands today was once the Barn for the Quillen Farm and the former Hewitt Dairy Barn became the maintenance shed.

Located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, the course is a beautiful 18 hole, classic design, golf course with Shenandoah Mountain views and significant elevation changes; all provided by "Mother Nature", not a bulldozer.

Waynesboro Country Club is a par-72 challenge that measures 6,456 yards from the back tees. The course rating is 70.9 and it has a slope rating of 130. At 6,456 yards, distance is not the key to success. However, accuracy is a must as water hazards and out-of-bounds effect play on 16 of the 18 holes.

The Waynesboro, Va., News Virginian reported that board members of the Waynesboro Country Club took a step toward fixing the organization’s reported $250,000 debt on November 18, 2015 by voting to make the course semi-private, .

As a result of the positive vote on the proposal, non-club members will be able to play a round of golf for $35 anytime Monday through Thursday, and for $40 Friday through Sunday after 11 a.m.

It was pointed out that it would take just over 6,000 rounds of golf from non-members to cover the club's existing debt.
